So, I've been trying to lead a healthy hair life and so far its been difficult or perhaps I've just been lazy. I have been seriously considering transitioning to natural hair, but that would mean cutting off over 3/4 of my hair, which for me is just not an option [deep insecure issues about short hair can't be helped]
Hair History
I used to relax my hair irregularly usually when there was a little growth and I relaxed my whole hair[ resulting in over-processed hair] to top it off, I always waited for the relaxer to start burning [I know that was stupid now] I used to think that the burning meant that
it was working,
so my hair was very damaged and really uneven. So last year, I had a big chop just to make it even and I got protective style after protective style (weaves, cornrows weaves again) and my hair grew A LOT plus it was even. All was good, I started texturizing my hair and I did it by myself for the first time and it completely flopped because one side was more texturized than the other, I was bummed. I got another weave earlier this year, when I took it out I got my hair professionally relaxed, one side was still a little thicker than the other -_-. I got cornrows, for two months-ish I took out my hair then texuturized again this time not waiting for the burn but still doing the whole head [when will I learn!!!] I texturized again a couple weeks later in a final attempt for even thickness [again absolute stupidity] so I swore of it.
Fast forward to now and my hair has new growth, haven't texturized for a month and a half but It's a quarter new growth and the rest is relaxed bone straight over-processed hair. It looks horrible when it's wet. I know I need to cut the over-processed hair but I just can't handle it at the moment. I have been looking after my hair moisturizing it daily, deep conditioning weekly even using castor oil, but I've screwed my hair up big time. It is getting thicker after each wash but still not how I want it. I'm currently deep-conditioning right now. I've just been considering transitioning to natural, well not fully because I couldn't maintain it but natural in the sense I would only relax once or twice a year using a children's relaxer or a really weak one.
Ughh I'm just overly frustrated at the moment, trying to rescue my hair. I've stopped using heat, so it's limited a lot of hair style choices.
I'm definitely going through the hardest part of any hair care journey.

Current Regimen
Shampoo [Herbal Essence Dry+Frizzy Hair] & Deep Condition ORS Replenishing Conditioner on Sundays with pure castor oil.
Moisturize Daily at night with ORS Mosturizing Lotion and Pure Castor Oil (minimal amount due to its thickness)
Co Wash- During the week whenever I feel my hair needs it. Head & Shoulders Anti-Dandruff Conditioner.
I also do protein treatment, after 2-3 weeks, my hair can handle it.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.
I'm having a haircare crisis also, i've just stopped doing anything to it at the moment..seems to be working! No heat and lots of conditioner, i'm sure our hair is extremely different though hahaha. good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteLovely post!
I am relaxed & currently transitioning into relaxed healthy hair.
It's been difficult but for now I just make sure that if i really need to use a relaxer that I only relax for about 3-5mins, use low manipulative styles, moisturise errrryday lol & literally perm only 3/4 times a year.
Your regimen also sounds good but make sure to remember to balance your protein and moisture intake!
I'll be doing a hair post on my blog soon.
I'd love if you followed if you likey!
